Round Table “rescue” town’s bonfire party

by John Hendon from Frodsham Life August 2010

FRODSHAM and district Round Table have “rescued” the town’s annual Bonfire Party and firework display.
Members of the Town Council welcome an application by the Round Table to use Fluin Lane playing fields for the event on November 5.
The event has in the past been staged by Frodsham Community Association but two months ago the association withdrew its application for permission to use the Fluin Lane field.
Councillors agreed it was “good news” that the Round Table was to stage the event. But concern was expressed over the possibility of damage to the field.

  • Coun Frank Pennington said there had been problems last year which had cost the community centre “a lot of money” to put right. The bonfire had been in the middle of the field and the site of the fire had to be re-turfed.
  • Coun Dennis Taylor said it would be advisable not to put the bonfire in the middle of the field but somewhere else where it would not cause much damage.
  • Coun Tony Hinkins said telling the Round Table where to locate the fire would be quite wrong. But the council could be involved in the risk assessment.

It was agreed that the field should be reinstated after the event.

Roundtable Complete Coast to Coast Challenge

For the third year in a row, a team of eight intrepid explorers from Frodsham and District round table have cycled the gruelling 142 mile route from Coast to Coast in 4 days, from Whitehaven to Newcastle and jointly raising several thousand pounds for local good causes.
This ride encompasses some of the highest peaks in the country, totalling around 3500 meters of ascent and was a fantastic achievement for the whole group cyclers, all of them crossing the finish line together.

The team of round tablers were joined by the father of a six year old boy from Kingsley with autism. His parents are attempting to raise money to get him onto the sunrise program in America and a majority of the proceeds are going to support them.

The teams efforts were closely followed on twitter and facebook, but it was not all pain though, the team managed to find time to support many of the local taverns on route and a good time was had by all. See details of the event on our web site frodshamroundtable.co.uk

Frodsham and District Round Table take the Trophy

Twelve members of Frodsham and District Roundtable joined teams from all over the country to take part in the annual Hike and Bike competition (www.hikeandbike.org.uk). The local members managed to secure first and sixth place in a competition that sees teams from all over the country compete in hiking, mountain biking and orienteering. Some of our less competitive members also managed to not take home the wooden spoon, despite being the only ones to retire on the first day. The event encourages members to meet up with other areas and have a great social night out as well.

This is just one of the activities that Frodsham and District Round Table participate in for men aged between 18 and 45. We are always keen to welcome new members of if you are interested, have a look at rt940.co.uk or ring Allen Wales on 07870 639497.
